Located in Cherokee County, NC Murphy is not the same well-kept secret it was back in1995. (That was the year when Carolyn and Bill first paid Murphy a visit.)
In 1998, after making the move to make Murphy their permanent home, the idea for Sandy Gap Mountain Rentals took root. Since then, this unique town with a precious abundance of nearby recreational opportunities, has become much better known. Of course, the popularity of the Harrah's Casino in nearby Cherokee, has had a bit of an impact on the area as well.
Murphy has an interesting history. You can discover more about the area's heritage by visiting the website for the Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce. The popularity of vacationing here continues to grow, due to Murphy's central location (and the way news spreads here on the Internet!)
While the color of the forests on the hillsides surrounding Murphy change so brilliantly with the seasons, the goals set years ago - to help people to enjoy a vacation in the scenic Smoky Mountains by supplying quality, comfortable and affordable lodging in a mountain chalet - remains unchanged.
